Can Delicious Snacks Actually Be Good For You?

I remember when I was a kid, sneaking into the kitchen being able to get the lid off the cookie jar without mom hearing it. It wouldn’t be until all of a sudden someone else wanted a cookie and found that several were already gone.  I always got the blame because the two sibling jewels I had never did anything like that or always got caught if they tried. I never did tell anyone the trick to getting that lid off.  I bet you did the same or similar sneaky snack stealing too when your mom wasn’t looking, right?

carob-fudgeWell, ex-bodybuilding champion Carolyn Hansen says those days are over if she gets her way.  She says mothers everywhere are positively encouraging their children to help themselves to her dessert and snack recipes. There are over 200 of them.

The reason hers are healthier you might ask?  The ingredients!!  No sugar, flour, or butter to be found in these recipes – just healthy natural ingredients.  Preperation is a breeze too because no cooking either, for the most part.  All moms with a blender will be proficient in the kitchen and keep the kids satisfied.

That’s the conclusion Carolyn Hansen reaches in her collection of recipe books she calls Blended Bites.  At first glance you are thinking – bland- no taste – or maybe it might remind you of experiments mom used when she was out of an ingredient & substituted something else.  We all know the things that make snacks taste good, butter, or in my mom’s case “lard”, white sugar, flour are what makes a snack tasty and why it is a snack not torture and we know those ingredients contribute to chronic disease in later life.  Too much sugar and butter in the diet are prime causes of obsesity, diabetes, and coronary disease.

Carolyn Hansen knew she needed to find alternatives to the desserts and snacks she found so difficult to remove from her diet.  Being a competitive bodybuilder she was determined to work in the kitchen and find a way to keep herself from ruining her bodybuilding progress she made in the gym by eating unhealthy treats when her willpower faded.

Like anything worth doing the going was difficult.  There’s a lot to do when you begin throwing out the staple ingredients of recipes generations of years old.  But Carolyn persevered through all the mistakes along the way, and came up with desserts and snacks that she could share with her bodybuilder friends. The same treats that you can share with your family and friends and know that you are helping them maintain their health for years to come.

By now you have read enough that you will want to get your hands on Carolyn’s recipes for desserts and snacks.  Snacks the kids (and you) won’t have to sneak or to feel guilty about eating the next time you have a craving for something delicious. Be sure to check out Carolyn Hansen’s books at Blended Bites.

Benefits of Using Magnesium Oil

Benefits of Magnesium Oil

For a few months I’ve been hearing about magnesium oil and how people are getting relief from a variety of ailments.  I take a variety of reported “healthy” items from Tahitian Noni Juice, Mangoxan juice plus vitamins & if  weather permits we walk around the block which is about 2.5 miles.  In the
winter & wild weather we don’t walk for exercise. I guess I ought to say I also make the beet, carrot, apple juice combination, fire cider, kefir, kombucha too.  I’m juiced no matter what. I was making my own ginger ale but it quit getting fizzy and I can’t figure out why.

Ancient-Mineral-Magnesium-Since before I started drawing my social security it seems little issues pop up that make me look for a “healthy” item to fix it. So in looking around the internet or saw it on facebook I found someone with my ailments and they were saying how magnesium oil worked for them.  Then I think what the heck,
I already take enough stuff, eat healthy, etc.  The last thing I thought I would need is another  way to fix an ailment.

To make a long story short for a sciatica problem I started massaging in magnesium oil (home made).  It’s working I think.  I had the problem a few years ago and it healed with exercise, heat pads, cold packs etc.  It took six months. This time it has taken three months and the only addition to the exercise & heat & cold is magesium oil.  The problem seemed pretty bad almost enough to make a doctor visit but it started healing up.  Patience isn’t one of my virtues but I could tell something was working.  Recipe follows so read on please.  Continue reading

Lemongrass Essential Oil Pain Relief

Using Lemongrass Essential Oil for Pain

I have neglected writing articles for quite a while trying to decide if I want to keep on doing this or just let this site lapse.  Since mom died a couple years ago I sort of stopped looking for things to ease her symptoms she had.

Lemongrass Essential OilWe still use the products we buy from Mountain Rose internally and externally.  Even Buddy the dog benefits from what we learn about essential oils and aromatherapy.

He is not a fan of it like we are probably because it smells good instead of like something he is enamored with that another animal left in the yard.

The last time I ordered from Mountain Rose I ordered several teas because I’ve been making kombucha and I happen to like herbal teas too.  There is a difference in them but I’ll stick to the pain subject part of this article.  One of the teas I had ordered was lemongrass and I enjoy the smell and taste.  Even though it is a tea it is sort of like aromatherapy.  I had been using lemongrass essential oil on Buddy to keep fleas and ticks away so I always have some on hand.
